In one of the first social media marketing campaigns to be held on Google+ since brand pages launched early last week, Specsavers hosted a celebrity “hangout” with Gok Wan, according to an article published by New Media Age.

Taking place last Friday (November 11), ambassador for the Specsavers brand, Wan’s “hangout” was held to promote the upcoming Spectacle Wearer of the Year awards, as well as his own range of glasses.

To receive access to the “hangout”, users of Google+ were encouraged to add Gok Wan into their celebrity circle; those users that followed the TV presenter were then subsequently added to a prize draw.

Digital marketing manager at Specsavers, Tim Langlois, commented on the event.

He said: “The awards have been running for 15 years now and we feel that the Google+ hangout is an amazing opportunity to take blogger and public engagement to a new, dynamic level.”

The event was also broadcast across a number of social media platforms including YouTube and Facebook.
