Micro-blogging site Twitter has undergone a major revamp which includes new profiles specifically designed for brands.

As a result of the introduction of brand profiles, companies will have much greater creative control over how their profile looks – giving them the ability to upload a header image, as well as the opportunity to highlight one tweet from their timeline.

Twitter – a site popular with social media marketing professionals – has revealed that the pages are free to use; however, they won’t be available to the masses until the beginning of next year (2012).

Amongst the 19 brands listed as launch partners for the new brand pages are McDonalds, Paramount Pictures, Coca-Cola and Nike Basketball.

UK general manager for Twitter, Tony Wang, commented on the launch of the new feature, in an article published New Media Age.

He said: “We have already seen success for brands in terms of driving value and we see 2012 as being a big year for us.”
