Facebook is in the process of testing a new advertising feature, dubbed Sponsored Results.

Some users of the social networking site reported seeing adverts produced alongside organic results when conducting searches for specific pages and places. Facebook later confirmed the existence of these sponsored results and revealed that it had been testing the feature since last week.

It has also been revealed that the adverts won’t be listed on a Facebook search results page – only in the site’s search typeahead. The feature will present advertisers – who will be able to purchase the ads on a cost-per-click basis – with another option when conducting social media marketing campaigns on the site.

A spokesperson for Facebook said in an official statement: “We are currently testing a feature that surfaces sponsored results along with organic results when people are looking for things on Facebook.”

“We try to show people apps and pages they’ll be most interested in,” the spokesperson added.
