Representing the latest in a line of recent purchases, Google has completed the acquisition of a provider of antivirus services.

VirusTotal revealed the news in a post published on its official blog on Friday (September 7), however, the deal’s financial details were notably absent.

It revealed that the company would continue to operate independently from Google, keeping the partnerships it has built with a number of antivirus firms and experts from the security sector.

The VirusTotal team stated in the post: “Our goal is simple: to help you safe on the web. And we’ve worked hard to ensure that the services we offer continually improve. But as a small, resource-constrained company, that can sometimes by challenging. So we’re delighted that Google, a long-time partner, has acquired VirusTotal.”

With the acquisition, the tools offered by VirusTotal are expected to improve significantly.

Just last month, the search engine giant – popularly used by those conducting Internet marketing initiatives – announced that it had purchased Wildfire in a deal worth around $250 million.
