Google has launched a credit card solely for use with AdWords.
It’s been designed to enable small businesses to keep their pay per click ad campaigns running effectively.
Following a successful period of testing in the US, Google’s vice president and treasurer, Brent Callinicos, wrote in a blog post, published on the Inside AdWords blog on October 7, that the search engine would begin to invite UK businesses to use the credit service – dubbed ‘AdWords Business Credit – in the UK’.
The AdWords Business Credit service was initially made available to around 1,400 businesses in America last year (2011) as part of a pilot scheme.
Callinicos stated around 74 per cent of respondents to a survey Google conducted after the pilot scheme launched, said the AdWords Business Credit had become their main payment method for their AdWords bills.
An Internet marketing service used by a huge number of businesses, AdWords allows businesses to bid on keywords to include in ads, then have the ads displayed on Google SERPs (search engine results page) for relevant searches.
As well as launching the service in the UK, Google has also revealed that it will begin to invite more US businesses to use the service later in the month.
The credit card will be issued in the UK with Barclaycard. It will have a variable 11.9 per cent APR representative.
Commenting on the service, Callinicos wrote: “Every day, AdWords enables more than one million businesses, the majority of which are SMBs (small and medium-sized businesses), to connect with their customers online.
“We hope AdWords Business Credit will give SMBs more flexibility – some ‘extra credit’ – so they’re able to focus on growing their businesses even further.”
