Google has unveiled a new feature for its Display Ad Builder application that is designed to make it easy for small firms to create InVideo overlay ads for YouTube videos.
Writing on the Inside AdWords blog, Emily Williams said that the tool is part of Google’s work to "democratise access to display advertising" and make it as accessible as search engine marketing.
InVideo display ads are animated overlays that appear on the bottom portion of a video while it is playing.
Ms Williams said that the ads are "one of the most effective ad formats on YouTube" and, with users watching over a billion clips on the site every day, can be a simple way of getting a marketing message in front of a large audience.
The Display Ad Builder tool gives marketers access to a number of templates and fonts for creating their own animated InVideo messages, she added.
Google bought YouTube in 2006 for $1.65 billion (£1 billion).
