ClickThrough Marketing welcomes new account director, Rob Allen, to the team. We sat down to discuss his new role, his wealth of experience in marketing and his eclectic iTunes collection.

Who are you?

Rob Allen, account director at ClickThrough Marketing.

When did you start at ClickThrough? –

Monday, February 4.

What does your role at ClickThrough involve? –

As account director I’m in a leading client-facing role on ClickThrough’s corporate accounts. It’s my job to manage monthly client activity and deliver against set key performance indicators (KPIs).

It’s also my job to work with the implementation teams and the search executives to evaluate monthly activity and recommend future strategies that will help drive ROI on the client account.

What’s your background? –

I started my career at Coca Cola a number of years ago. I’m a Chartered Marketer and have 16 years of marketing and client services experience mainly within agencies.

I’ve managed strategy, brand communications and digital marketing projects for diverse clients including Angel Springs, Raleigh Bikes, DatingDirect.com, Hitachi Rail and The NEC Group.

Why this role? –

Coming from a traditional agency marketing background, I was keen to take on a new challenge and specialise in digital marketing strategy.

It’s a fast growing market with new innovations happening all the time, ClickThrough are at the forefront of this and I can clearly see how it benefits the bottom line of the clients business.

How have you found ClickThrough so far? –

I’ve been really impressed – it’s a great place to work and the team here are brilliant. It is just great to work with such a talented, experienced group of people with such a broad knowledge base.

They’re truly a professional, intelligent bunch and I’m enjoying the fact that I can act as a sponge and absorb all this valuable information.

What’s your proudest moment (career-wise or otherwise)? –

Personally, I’m proudest of my family. I’ve been with my wife for ten years (married for three) and we have a lovely four-year-old daughter. The constant day-to-day changes and challenges just make it a really great experience. I’m really proud of how we’ve constantly kept developing as a unit.

Professionally, I would have to say achieving my CIM Chartered Postgraduate Diploma and applying that knowledge directly to a range of projects.

If I had to choose though, I’d pick starting a family as my proudest moment every time.

Here’s a complicated one. If you were forced, at gunpoint, to spend the rest of your life on a desert island and the only luxuries your captors only allowed to take along were a book, an album, and three items that you could easily carry on your person, what would they be? –

For items can I cheat a little and say my wife, daughter and a phone or other form of GPS device so we can attempt to navigate off the island should we eventually get bored?

Book-wise, I would say William Shakespeare’s, The complete works of William Shakespeare. Both of my parents were English teachers so I feel, having not read this yet, it is my duty to do so – and what better time to do it than when stuck on a desert island?

Album, hmm this one is tricky, I’ve got an eclectic taste in music, with a range of albums on my iTunes varying from reggae and ska to rock, dance and drum and bass. But, if I had to make a choice I would say Soundgarden’s Superunknown. It’s just a great combination of hard rock with a little bit of the Beatles, a little bit of Sabbath and a little bit of Zeppelin – and Chris Cornell is just a great front man.

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional who would it be? –

I would have to say Steve Jobs RIP. He’ll go down as one of the greats. It would just be fantastic to live a week in the life of a man who achieved so much in such a short period of time.

He has also achieved it all in an area that I am particularly interested in – it would just be great to take away knowledge from such an exceptional individual and then use their expertise to improve my own thinking.
