A search engine optimisation (SEO) specialist has detailed the essentials of attracting traffic to websites.

Joanne Gadel, SEO analyst and regular contributor to promotionalworld.com, listed keywords and unique content as very important to optimisation and suggested some ways to improve their use.

She noted that search engines like Google favour sites with relevant and unique content and this can be improved in several different ways.

"Google and the other search engines love relevant and unique content," Ms Gadel wrote.

Uploading specially authored articles, brand new blog entries and updating biography pages on a daily basis will help a website’s ranking.

Keywords should be "smartly" planted in the web page’s title tag and meta tag and, rather than use hundreds of them, they should be carefully chosen to be relevant.

Carrie Hill, search engine marketing expert and promotion account manager for Blizzard Internet Marketing, wrote similar advice in searchenginewatch.com.

"Don’t forget your content needs to be original, unique and relevant," she stated.
