Google is to begin showing original animated features through its online advertising service AdSense, it has emerged.

According to the New York Post the search engine is developing a $10 million (£5 million) marketing project through finance company Media Rights Capital.

The newspaper reports that the 50 animated shorts will be put together specifically for distribution on the AdSense advertising feature and will include contributions from Seth MacFarlane – creator of Family Guy and American Dad.

It is also thought that some of the features will involve teenage TV star Raven-Symone from the Disney Channel’s That’s So Raven.

The animated shorts are thought to be bundled with banner advertising and in-stream video marketing.

Earlier this week E! Entertainment Online reported that the search engine was attempting to get Comedy Central comedians Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart to give evidence in its ongoing battle with Viacom.

The row is over the inclusion of unauthorised clips on Google’s YouTube site which the company acquired in October 2006.
