Some 75 per cent of web users do not see ads that are located below the fold, it has been claimed.

A new study from market research company Marketing Sherpa has found that roughly 25 per cent of consumers see online ads below the fold, Bizreport states.

The report found that adverts above the fold, which are viewable to 100 per cent of consumers, are seen by around 60 per cent of people. But below the fold adverts, which are viewable by some 70 per cent of web users, are only viewed by around 25 per cent.

Such results could have an effect on search engine marketing, Bizreport states, as it indicates that advert placement has an important role in how many consumers engage with it.
