US retailers are set to step up their online marketing efforts in the run up to Christmas, according to a study.

The eHoliday Survey, conducted for, has found 83.7 per cent of retailers will have a special promotion for Cyber Monday – the Monday after Thanksgiving – up 72.2 per cent from last year.

Specific deals are expected to be one of the most popular promotions at 38.8 per cent, while email campaigns are set to account for 32.7 per cent of online marketing efforts, with one-day sales at 24.5 per cent.

Executive director of, Scott Silverman, said: "As shoppers focus on price this holiday season, online retailers will be extremely competitive."

He added: "Americans who are looking to put a dent in their holiday shopping will be able to find thousands of bargains on Cyber Monday."

In other news, online consumers intend to spend less in stores ahead of Christmas, compared to the last, but plan to pay out slightly more online, according to The Consumer Internet Barometer from The Conference Board.
