Google has announced the launch of new features for its AdWords-powered local business advertising service on Google Maps.

Users clicking on a local business organic or sponsored listing within Google Maps will now see an information window containing basic information on that firm and links to allow them to receive directions, see the company in Street View or save information to My Maps.

Web users will also be able to send local business data to their email or phone, while advertisers using pay per click services can now access detailed reports on clicks and views of their local ads in the AdWords Report Centre.

Amanda Kelly of Google wrote on the Inside AdWords blog that Maps users tend to seek out different information to that sought by users of the standard search engine.

She added: "The new interactive links and the interaction reports should not only help customers connect with you faster but should also help you understand how to better target Maps users versus Search users."

AdWords Editor 7.0 was released by Google in December last year.
