Companies looking to optimise their blogs and improve their search rankings have been offered some top tips by experts in the field.

Ahead of a session at the Search Engine Strategies New York event next week, Lee Odden, chief executive of TopRank, spoke to some of his co-panellists.

Their search engine optimisation (SEO) advice is published on TopRank’s Online Marketing Blog in a post by Mr Odden.

One co-panellist is Rebecca Lieb from Econsultancy, who said it is important to remember that a blog is not just a one-off project.

Indeed, she pointed out that blogs should be updated regularly with relevant content and keywords, which should appear in headlines as well as body text.

"Don’t forget to optimise images, video and audio files with relevant, keyword-rich metadata. They’re content too," she said.

Ms Lieb also insisted that RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds are an "SEO dream" as they allow website owners to get content "out there" on a "bullet train".

The Online Marketing Blog recently came eighth in a list of the top 25 SEO blogs as compiled by Daniel Scocco, author of Daily Blog Tips.
