More and more advertisers are using social networking site Facebook as a tool to market their brands, a site representative has said.
The Financial Times reported Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer with the company, as saying that there is a lot of commercial content on users’ profile pages irrespective of specific internet marketing campaigns.
According to Facebook, the majority of the 100 largest US-based companies are using the site to market their brands and are doing so in various ways, including creating their own profile pages – which they can do free of charge – to collect fans of their products. Seattle coffee company Starbucks has over 3.7 million people on its page.
Ms Sandberg’s assertions follow a recent survey by the Association of National Advertisers, in conjunction with BtoB Magazine and marketing services firm MKTG, which revealed that 66 per cent of marketers were using social media.
Of these sites, Facebook was the most prominent, followed by YouTube, Twitter and LinkedIn.
