Social network Twitter is "still growing like crazy", according to one analyst.
Jim Monks, chief operating officer at TweetMeme, a service that aggregates the most popular links on the microblogging site, said that the rapidly growing audience will present opportunities for users of internet marketing services that embrace the channel.
His comments come after Brian Klais of Search Engine Land claimed that producing real-time content via networks like Twitter and Facebook allows brands to take their campaigns into new areas by giving them insights into the "voice of the customer".
According to recent research published by Econsultancy, UK firms are increasingly looking to integrate social media elements into their marketing.
It found that 65 per cent of companies are currently planning to increase their investment in marketing efforts on these networks over the coming 12 months.
Of these, 56 per cent intended to up their social media budgets by more than 20 per cent.
