Google has exnlarged the range of phone numbers that can be included in its click-to-call feature for ads targeted at users of mobile devices with full internet browsers.
Emily Williams of the company’s pay per click marketing service AdWords said that the move is designed to make it easier for UK businesses to generate sales or customer leads using phone calls.
Click-to-call numbers can be included as an additional line in text ads, allowing users of iPhones, Android-powered smartphones and devices running Palm OS to connect direct to a business.
Previously, only free 0800 numbers or those with a local area code could be included in the ads.
From this week, marketers can also include numbers starting with 0843, 0844, 0845 and 0870 in their click-to-call campaigns.
"We hope this will provide many more businesses in the UK with a great opportunity to attract new customers by phone," Ms Williams said.
Last month, Google announced that it plans to roll out click-to-call numbers to mobile ads and apps appearing on its Content Network.
