Bing is hoping to grab a slice of the US back-to-school market by pushing its services to parents looking for classroom supplies and more.

Writing on the search engine’s official blog, Kristin Meldahl said Bing shopping will help mums and dads get the best deals on clothes, shoes, backpacks and gadgets.

She added that users will be able to refine their searches by product, price or customer review.

Elsewhere, Ms Meldahl said Bing aims to be the search engine of choice for parents who will be driving a freshman to their new dorm this year.

“Use Bing Maps to plan your route and even map out where the coffee shop is along the way,” she wrote.

In related news, Duncan Parry of Search Engine Watch recently said Bing’s partnership with Yahoo!, which will see the firms collaborate in areas like pay per click marketing, could be extremely successful in boosting revenues.

Nevertheless, he added, they will have their work cut out in denting Google’s share of the search market, which in the UK stands at around 90 per cent.
