One expert claims Google is unlikely to get rid of its search box any time soon.

According to Karin von Abrams, a senior analyst at New York-based research firm eMarketer, the device is too important to internet marketing services and web users.

Because of this, she believes the search engine is "far too clever" to get rid of such an important tool until something equally as effective is discovered.

If the change was implemented, Ms von Abrams said it is unlikely to have a negative impact on the digital advertising industry.

"Whenever Google is able to replace the search box, it will be sure to implement a system that ensures the continued health of online advertising," she added, noting that new forms of internet promotion are constantly emerging.

Earlier this week, Google chief executive officer Eric Schmidt told the Wall Street Journal there will be a time when the company's search box eventually becomes outmoded.
