Bing has released an updated version of its iPhone app, adding new features that will allow online marketing services to take advantage of improved usability and more location-based services.

According to Search Engine Land, the improved features also allow people to log in to social media sites such as Facebook and MSN Messenger without leaving the app and the Plans feature allows individuals to coordinate their activities with their friends.

The app also includes Bing's new Streetside mapping feature to help users familiarise themselves with a place before they arrive, while other location-based functionality includes reminders that can provide notifications when a person gets near somewhere they have an errand.

Elsewhere, the update offers an improved homepage layout intended for "easier navigation and discovery".

It has been suggested recently by Econsultancy's Graham Charlton that many internet advertisers will be placing more attention on mobile in the next year in order to take advantage of a rapidly expanding market.
