With the Bing/Yahoo! Search Alliance well underway, the Microsoft-operated search engine has moved to remind people of some of the SEO basics everyone should be aware of when optimizing their site.

In the post, entitled ’18 things you need to know about SEO’, Bing clarifies some of the aspects users can change in order to see their site rank higher on the search engine.

Here are just a few of those things site users can employ to add to current SEO strategies:

  • RSS Feeds – Listed under ‘things Bing love’, it is recommended that RSS feeds are employed and kept running effectively. A feed will allow search engines, such as Bing, to pull in the latest content – resulting in faster indexing and ranking.
  • Mark it up – According to the post, schema.org provides a number of ideas on how to embed tags into your sites’ page code – which will ultimately allow search engines to understand it more effectively. This technique can be employed for videos, images, geolocation information and much more.
  • Social Love – Operating a social presence has become the norm. However Bing states that your followers must see your content as a truly valuable resource with vocal authority.

Bing has also warned users of the things that, if employed, will see their ranking gradually dissipate; including:

  • Link Buying
  • Link Farms
  • Content Duplication
  • Material ‘thin’ in content
  • Three-way Linking
