AOL buys German online marketing firm AOL has continued its spending spree in the online marketing sector with the purchase of German internet advertising management company Adtech.

The Time Warner company has bought a controlling stake in the Frankfurt-based company - which serves publishers in over 25 countries - for an undisclosed fee, Reuters reports.

Following yesterday's announcement that it has acquired Third Screen Media for a similarly undisclosed sum, the move represents a significant drive on the part of AOL to strengthen its search engine marketing profile.

AOL describes Boston-based Third Screen Media as a "leading mobile advertising network and mobile ad-serving and management platform provider".

In recent weeks, Google has acquired DoubleClick for $3.1 billion (£1.6 billion), while Yahoo! bought Right Media for a sum of around $680 million.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is reported to be considering bids for 24/7 Real Media and Yahoo!.
