Christmas shoppers will not be leaving it until the last minute this year, which means search marketers will have to act quickly, according to a new report.
The survey, conducted by comScore, found that online retailers have seen a significant increase in spending on last year and that this could continue right up until Christmas.
The study revealed that sales on American Thanksgiving Day rose by about $200 million - an increase of around 29 per cent on last year.
Commenting on the results, Gian Fulgoni, chairman of comScore, said: "Online spending [around this time] has historically represented an early indicator of how the rest of the season will shake out."
"[The] growth rate versus last year is outpacing the overall growth rate for the first three weeks of the season should be seen as a sign of positive momentum," he added.
According to comScore around $700 million could have been spent online on Monday of this week making it the largest single-day online spend since records began.
