Search engine giant Google has acquired Grand Central Communications for an undisclosed fee, it was announced yesterday.

Wesley Chan, product manager at Google, announced on the official blog that the company had made the purchase and intended to move Grand Central's technology over to the Google network.

Grand Central offers users a single number for all their telephone lines and supplies a mailbox for accessing all voice messages; the mailbox can also be accessed online.

In the statement Mr Chan said: "We think Grand Central's technology fits well into Google's efforts to provide services that enhance the collaborative exchange of information between our users."

It is stated that existing customers should experience no interruption in service and a new beta account will soon be available.

Google yesterday issued a retraction on its healthcare advertising blog after one of its writers expressed their opinion about Michael Moore's new documentary Sicko.
