Google confirms Zingku acquisition

Google has made another acquisition this week, taking control of private beta mobile service Zingku, according to Google Operating System (GOS) - an unofficial blog site.

Commenting on the acquisition, Search Engine Land reports that previously Zingku had provided SMS messaging as a platform for entertainments and events information.

The site states that the acquisition of the company should offer Google some commercial options but said that the integration of the company into Google's services could render its previous purchase of Dodgeball, another mobile-social service, obsolete.

Since GOS' blog post Google itself has confirmed the purchase stating: "It is true that we acquired certain assets and technology of Zingku. We believe these assets can help build products and features that will benefit our users, advertisers and publishers."

GOS also states that the deal could be integrated with Google's other recent purchase GrandCentral.

Earlier this year Wesley Chan, product manager at Google, said that moving Grand Central's technology over to the Google network would "enhance the collaborative exchange of information between our users".
