Google keeps lead in US search market Internet giant Google retained its position at the top of the US search rankings last month, it has been revealed.

According to figures produced by comScore, 61.5 per cent of searches in the country were conducted though Google sites during the 30-day period.

This represents a slight decrease from its share of the search market in May, when 61.8 per cent of all US searches were conducted through the California-headquartered firm.

Meanwhile, rival company Yahoo!'s sites were the second most popular, capturing 20.9 per cent of the market.

Microsoft and Ask came in third and fourth positions, with 9.2 and 4.3 per cent of the search market respectively.

In total, 11.5 billion searches were performed by American internet users over June, a rise of seven per cent compared to May.

Reflecting Google's ever-increasing commercial presence, a new report by the Superbrands Council has indicated that the company is now the UK's top consumer brand, overtaking rival Microsoft for the first time.
