Google retains lion's share of US search Google remains the largest search engine in the US, according to comScore.

The digital analyst has released the rankings for search engines in the US in March, with Google once again occupying the top berth.

Google's sites increased their share of the US search market by 0.2 per cent from February to 48.3 per cent last month. A total of 3.5 billion searches were carried out via Google over the period.

Closest to the Mountain View-based firm was Yahoo!, which saw its sites claiming 27.5 per cent of the marketplace – a slip of 0.6 per cent from February.

Microsoft's sites took 10.9 per cent of the playing field while Ask and Time Warner Network held 5.2 per cent and five per cent respectively.

The number of online searches conducted by Americans rose by six per cent from February to 7.3 billion in March, representing a year-on-year rise of 14 per cent.

Google's seat at the top of the US search table comes as more good news for the giant, which saw off competition from its competitors this week to acquire advertising network DoubleClick.
