Google is to extend its presence in China, according to a spokesperson for the search engine.
Speaking to IDG News Service Marsh Wang confirmed plans for a research and development facility in Shanghai.
However, she did not provide any additional details, such as how many people would be employed at the plant once it opened.
Reuters reports that the centre is to be co-headed by Wang Jing, who has worked for eBay's research and development department in the past, and Yang Wenlou - a former Intel employee.
Jin Cui, a media representative for Google China, also told the news provider that the centre will open in ten days' time on June 25th.
In related search engine optimisation news, earlier this year Google announced an agreement with China Mobile - a telecommunications firm - which would see the firms provide search services throughout the country.
