Google's popularity 'continues to rise' The popularity of Google as a search engine shows no signs of abating, according to latest research.

Data from Search Engine Land suggests that Google will account for between 47 and 64 per cent of searches, with most commentators agreeing that its widespread use is set to continue.

Yahoo!'s popularity remains steady, with NetRatings and Hitwise dropping in usage but comScore and Compete ending at the same level as it was a year ago.

Elsewhere, marketingvox.vom states that Microsoft Live has had its number of searches levelling off and rising, according to some commentators.

The news comes as Microsoft states that it is to "move forward aggressively" in terms of considering how to use search and ad-supported offerings given Google's stranglehold on the market.

It states that it will direct one team in charge of research and development for both the search and ad platforms of Microsoft to gain ground on Google and Yahoo!.
