Internet marketing services 'may profit from advertising on Facebook' Digital brands may benefit if they advertise their wares on social networking site Facebook, as research has revealed the web page to be the most searched for term of the year so far.

According to figures released by Experian Hitwise, Facebook bumped 2008's most successful word MySpace into second place, accounting for 0.67 per cent of all queries on the web.

And, totalling all common search phrases such as facebook.com, the site was responsible for 1.09 per cent of searches.

This suggests that online PR professionals could increase their clickthrough rates by advertising with the company.

Others featured on the list include Craigslist, YouTube, Yahoo Mail, Google, Yahoo, eBay, Facebook login and MySpace.com.

This comes after Geoff Galat, vice-president of marketing and product strategy at Tealeaf, recommended firms set up a Facebook page.

By doing so, he noted, "you put a human face and name on your organisation", which can be reassuring for potential customers.
