Internet shoppers continue to spend Internet marketing was given a new boost this week as comScore revealed that online spending was continuing to grow.

According to internet news website BizReport, the study found that year-on-year non-travel related e-commerce had seen a third quarter (Q3) growth rate of 23 per cent – reaching over $28 billion.

Online advertisers were also advised that the travel sector had also seen increased revenues with an overall increase for Q3 of 11 per cent on the period in 2006.

Commenting on the results Gian Fulgoni, chairman of comScore, said the figures could rise even further.

"Online retail spending continues to grow at rates in excess of 20 percent year-over-year, which suggests that the market is still far from maturity," he said.

Adding: "Even online travel commerce, which is a more developed market, continues to experience double-digit gains."

The video game industry saw the steepest rise in online sales recording an increase in revenues of 199 per cent.
