Link networks 'important for small retail sites' High quality content and good numbers of keywords can be a great way of forming link networks and improving small business websites, according to one expert.

A spokesman for the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB), a trade association that advises on internet marketing, said that online campaigns can be an affordable way of improving business.

Jack Wallington, programmes manager for the IAB said that in particular, paid search listings are a realistically affordable option for most small businesses and entrepreneurs.

"Paid search works on an auction basis, so it is possible for any size of business to identify keywords they can afford to bid on and receive customers through search," he said.

He added that although it was important for companies to recognise the importance of keywording articles and content for their site, it was equally important not to go overboard and that links were a great way to encourage traffic.

"Build a link network! Target a handful of high quality, respected websites with large amounts of traffic and work on building a relationship with them to receive links back to your website," he concluded.
