Speakers at a conference in New York have highlighted some of the challenges facing search engine marketing as the number of people accessing the internet via their mobile phone continues to grow.
One of the speakers at the Search Engine Strategies (SES) Conference and Expo this week was Cindy Krum, senior search engine optimisation analyst at BlueMoon Works, who warned marketers that usability issues were a factor for handset users.
"People don't have time to learn your site. Make sure nothing is more than three clicks away from the home page because the connection on mobile phones is slow," she was quoted as saying by DM News.
Ms Krum also advised marketers to place their navigation icons at the top of the home page so that users do not have to scroll any more than they need to.
Last week, Brand Attention suggested that companies in the FTSE 100 need to invest more in mobile search market optimisation, after it found that only five per cent of them have homepages listed as the first search result on Google Mobile Web.
