Online marketing spending rising Advertising expenditure in the UK rose again in 2007 by more than four per cent, according to new figures – with online marketing enjoying strong gains, it has been revealed.

Statistics released this week by the Advertising Association identify spending on the sector reaching £19.4 billion.

The increase is in marked contrast to that seen in 2006, when advertising expenditure rose by only 0.7 per cent.

In particular, online marketing made gains, taking 15.1 per cent of the overall market share - up by nearly 40 per cent on 2006.

The news follows a Long Term Advertising Expenditure Forecast released earlier this year by the same body that suggested advertising spend could increase by almost 38 per cent in the next 12 years in the UK alone.

It also identified internet marketing as the "dominant force" behind spending during the coming years, stating that the four per cent share of the market held by the internet in 2006 would increase fourfold by 2019.
