Online video viewing grows in US US internet users watched 11 billion videos online this April, information provider comScore has reported.

Almost 135 million people – 71 per cent of the total internet audience – watched an average of 82 videos each. The average video length was 2.8 minutes.

The majority of viewers were in the 18 to 34 age group. In April, members of this sector each watched an average of 287 minutes, or nearly five hours. YouTube attracted 98 per cent of the 4.1 billion viewings on Google-owned sites.

A total of 5.1 per cent of videos were watched on Fox Interactive Media sites, followed by 3.2 per cent on Yahoo! sites and 2.4 per cent on Microsoft-owned websites.

Over a billion internet users across the globe are expected to use the medium for watching online videos by 2013, a four-fold increase. ABI Research attributes its findings to faster internet speeds and growing broadband coverage.
