A set of search engine optimisation (SEO) tips have been launched by Enhanced Online News.
The tip sheet said that instilling a press release with SEO involves more than simply choosing and sprinkling key words.
Writers must try to imagine which words people will search for when they are looking for that which a press release writers is offering.
The sheet also points out that puns, innuendo and double meanings can jeopardise SEO as search engines do not have a sense of humour.
The tip sheet advises: "Using bold, italics, headlines and subheads makes key phrases and keywords more visible. Emphasised text may help your release stand out and can positively impact search engine results."
Fittingly, it advises that tips and advice is itself search engine friendly.
"Provide tips, advice, or analysis in your press release that is relevant to your industry or your customers' interests" the sheet counsels. "Search engines are more likely to include releases that are honestly useful in their results."
Other advice includes avoiding repetition, as search engines may classify repetitive writing as spam.
