Women are at the forefront of social media, one of the biggest success stories of the internet, it has been claimed.
Traditionally men are the early adopters of new technology, redOrbit reports, but women are driving the way in the Web 2.0 revolution, information that could prove valuable to those involved in search engine marketing.
"While the trends indicate both sexes are using social media in huge numbers, our findings show that women far outpace the men," research from Rapleaf shows.
It is argued that with the next wave of innovation targeting men, the gender gap on social networks is set to widen, rather than narrow.
Furthermore it is claimed that in an attempt to capitalise on this trend and make the most of internet marketing opportunities, more women are set to be hired as brand mangers.
In June 2007, the Daily Telegraph reported that blogs, forums and chatrooms are being overtaken by "modern women" using the web to build new support systems.
