Top ten mistakes in search engine optimisation Website designers make a number of errors at the formative stage that can hamper the search engine optimisation of a site, it has been claimed.

In a new report, David Bain of Purple Internet Marketing has listed what he identifies as the top ten search engine optimisation mistakes made by designers.

Among these are the use of incorrect keyword phrases, wrong page titles and meta-descriptions and a lack of heading tags.

In addition, having too little content with no mention of keywords and no keywords in the page links can also prevent a website from making its presence felt on search engines.

Earlier this month, a study by E-consultancy revealed that 68 per cent of companies in the UK that pay for search engine optimisation get returns in excess of 300 per cent – with 40 per cent enjoying an even greater return of 500 per cent or more.
