US searches grow by 3% in July The number of online searches made by American internet users in July rose by three per cent, according to new figures.

Compiled by Nielsen Online, the research showed that this is in sharp contrast to the 16 per cent expansion seen in Google's share of the US search market last month.

The search giant accounted for 4.8 billion of the eight billion total queries conducted over the course of July, equivalent to more than 60 per cent of the market.

Meanwhile, second-placed Yahoo! and third-placed Microsoft both saw their respective proportions of the search market drop significantly in July compared with the same month in the previous year.

The news follows the release of a comScore report suggesting that Google accounted for 81 per cent of all online searches made in India during June, equivalent to more than one billion queries in total.
