Google rolls out latest Panda update

SEO on top of a pile of related words

When launched earlier this year, Google’s Panda update had a considerably large effect on the world of SEO. Now the search algorithm has seen another update, according to an article published by Search Engine Watch.

Implemented by the search engine giant late last Wednesday (September 28), Panda’s latest update has, as would be expected, had a significant effect on rankings.

Although Google have officially confirmed that they’ve made the update, they haven’t gone any further regarding the details.

However, SEW, using Searchmetrics data, have observed that big brands – including those owned by Google – have done especially well off the back of the update, whilst Google’s rivals have enjoyed less success.

It has also been speculated that, because a large number of the brands ranking highly were rich in video content, Google’s latest update may factor video into ranking – sites such as MTV, NBC and HBO, as well as YouTube all did extremely well.

Last week, a Google spokesperson, speaking to WebProNews, made an official statement regarding the latest Panda update.

The spokesperson said: “We’re continuing to iterate on our Panda algorithm as part of our commitment to returning high-quality sites to Google users. This most recent update is one of roughly 500 changes we make to our ranking algorithms each year.”
