Increased legislation in the online retail sector from UK and European organisations has been explained in the IMRG’s Legal Forum, which took place on October 14th.

According to the company, bodies such as the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), the Information Commissioner’s Office and the Advertising Standards Agency, as well as the European Union (EU), are looking into many issues ranging from privacy to marketing.

IMRG advised those in the online PR industry – and other internet-based businesses – to begin considering implementing procedures to handle possible breaches of any new regulations that appear.

The EU and the OFT are concentrating on internet marketing and pricing strategies, which the IMRG has emphasised is "likely to have consequences for those who use behavioural marketing".

In addition, it emerged recently that companies could soon be forced to implement new measures restricting underage access to various products should age verification legislation be passed into law.
