SEO ‘top of the list during downturn’

By ClickThrough Marketing | October 15, 2008

A new poll has indicated that business marketers are looking to concentrate on search engine optimisation (SEO) as the economic slowdown continues.

Conducted by the Online Marketing Blog, the survey showed that 36 per cent of executives intend to focus on SEO over the next six months, with one-third set to look at their blogging strategies in more detail.

Paid search came third with 26 per cent of the vote, followed by email marketing and social networking strategies.

Lee Odden of the Online Marketing Blog said that SEO has a "comfort" factor for many internet marketers.

He added: "Contrary to some mainstream media characterisations, SEO is a high impact, high value tactic for reaching customers online."

Meanwhile, a new study by CSO Insights for LeadLife has shown that internet marketing is playing a significant role in companies’ lead generation tactics, particularly key channels such as email marketing and online advertising.
