A site search facility could improve conversion rates for those running e-commerce websites, according to a new report.

About 44 per cent of companies responding to a US poll by Zoomerang for SLI Systems said they had seen a rise in conversions after implementing site search.

Over half said they experienced a direct rise in sales, while 40 per cent recorded higher customer satisfaction.

The poll also revealed that search engine optimisation and email marketing are viewed as equally important strategies for the e-commerce sector by the majority of organisations.

Shaun Ryan, chief executive of SLI Systems, remarked: "Adopting proven technologies that can guide shoppers to a merchant’s site in the bustling world of e-commerce will enable retailers to deliver a better customer experience and ensure the holidays are fruitful."

According to the latest IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index, online retail spending in the UK was 15.1 per cent higher in August compared with the same month last year.
