The latest attempt by Yahoo! to close the gap on search engine rival Google will not be successful, it has been suggested.
Eden Zoller wrote for Ovum that the company would need more than a redesigned homepage, which "appears to have introduced some pleasing if not unique features" as well as creating new possibilities for online marketing services, to help its current position.
"This is positive but not enough to turn Yahoo!’s fortunes around," he remarked.
Yahoo! Sites placed second in the latest comScore top 50 US property rankings with just over 154 million unique visitors during June. This was 2.8 million behind Google Sites and almost 27 million ahead of Microsoft Sites.
Despite this apparently strong position, however, the company posted mixed earnings results earlier this month.
Profits rose by eight per cent during the second quarter of the year, but gross revenue fell by 13 per cent.
