Facebook is set to give advertising in its right-hand column a new makeover it has emerged.
The social media giant is making the changes to bring the ads in line with those used within the News Feed itself.
On its Facebook for business blog it claims: "For advertisers, this offers a simpler way to create ads and an enhanced creative canvas on the right-hand column of Facebook."
On the blog, users were also informed the size of the adverts will now match the News Feed ads. Generally speaking for its News Feed ads Facebook recommends the best image size to upload is 1200x627 pixels, with a width of 600 pixels.
Due to this increase in size however, there will fewer ad spots available, which could in turn mean a potential increase in costs - although Facebook has not yet confirmed any such move.
For those using Facebook for social media marketing purposes, they will no longer need to select separate images for ads on both the News Feed and sidebar.
From research it has conducted so far, Facebook claims it has had three times more engagement with the new format of ads.
The rollout will be available to selected users at first, before being made available to all users over the course of the year.
