Facebook has sent out a cryptic message to the press - inviting them to an event at its Menlo Park California campus next week.
The message simply read 'come and see what we are building'.
However, as this is the first time the social networking giant has arranged a news conference in over a year, many in the industry are curious as to what the meeting will be about.
With literally no other information available, aside from the January 15 date provided by the firm, and with the CES currently in full flow in Las Vegas, Facebook could simply be using this mysterious message to generate a little online PR on the back of the big electronic event.
However, with Facebook still looking at the best ways forward in terms of further monetising its offerings, many of those who use the social media platform for business will be hoping for something more useful for their purposes.
Certainly, a host of rumours have quickly resurfaced - including the possible launch of a Facebook powered android phone, or a better search offering from the firm.
At a similar event almost a year and a half ago, the firm announced a partnership with Skype, adding video chat to the social networking platform.
