Google is set to introduce new in-depth articles to its search result pages according to the Google Search blog.
The blog post claims almost ten per cent of Google searches require more than a quick snippet of information, and this new feature is a great way to satisfy those requirements.
At present the feature is only available on English language searches and on certain topics such as censorship, Lego, capital punishment, e-waste and population growth - a mixed bag to say the least.
Once a user searches for a topic currently featured in the collection of in-depth articles offered by Google, the Search Engine Results Page (SERP) will show a number of the in-depth articles along with other organic results, it will not be shown on a separate sidebar.
Google technical staff member, Pandu Nayak, said: "I'm happy to see people continue to invest in thoughtful in-depth content that will remain relevant for months or even years after publication.
"This is exactly what you'll find in the new feature. In addition to well-known publishers, you'll also find some great articles from lesser-known publications and blogs."
Google has been tweaking its SERP quite a lot recently, including a number of additions such as biographies of people or companies users have searched for and also country profiles. Unlike the new in-depth articles however, these all appear on a separate side bar, above any PPC advertising displayed.
