Some Android users may now be able to experience a series of updates being tested on the operating system. These include:
It has been reported this week that some Android users were able to download apps directly to their mobile without having to visit the Play Store. The results are visible on Google’s search results, giving users the option to install the app via the usual install and accept buttons, available on a pop up within the results.
If the function is made live for all Android users, the process of skipping the step that automatically takes users into the Play Store may result in a higher volume of downloads.
Similar to the direct download function, Google has also introduced two new options within the pull down menu on mobile to various users.
‘What’s Hot’ and ‘Nearby’ have appeared as two new search functions, allowing for more targeted search capabilities.
Industry insights suggest that this testing may be due to the rise in mobile searches as well as specific ‘near me’ search queries.
The new functions are currently in test phase, and can only be seen by selected users. We will keep you updated with developments regarding the features, should they be introduced system wide.
