Adam Kilby joined ClickThrough Marketing in February 2015. We caught up with him to find out about his experience working in client-side PPC, marketing a hydrogen-powered racing car in the Netherlands, and a hidden desire to become a pilot.

What does your role at ClickThrough involve?

My role involves managing different PPC channels for clients. This includes everything from AdWords, Bing Ads, Criteo, Facebook Ads and much more. The role then requires me to work with clients to achieve their individual objectives/goals - these can vary from ROI and CPA targets to increasing brand awareness while managing the client’s budget.

What do you bring to ClickThrough?

Prior to joining ClickThrough I had spent one and a half years working client-side on a huge PPC account for an appliance spare parts company. Not only did this give me a lot of PPC experience, it also enabled me to understand where clients are coming from and the thought processes behind their decisions. This brings a new dynamic to the team here, many of which have only ever worked in an agency.

My previous work experience also saw me working on international PPC campaigns, including working very closely with international executives to translate and create keywords while maintaining other aspects of the account. This is also valuable experience that I can also share with the team here.

What attracted you to this role?

I had heard a lot of good things about ClickThrough Marketing and was keen to make the switch from client-side to agency, as I had always wanted to experience the differences between client and agency. The position was also a step up in terms of responsibility and skill so I felt it was a role that would really push me and encourage me to grow. This ideology aligns very closely to ClickThrough’s as it encourages all employees to grow by offering constant training and knowledge sharing.

What do you most enjoy about your role at ClickThrough?

Every day is different. You can have a variety of jobs to do each day, which keeps things refreshing and enjoyable. It also helps to have a really friendly atmosphere in the office with everyone offering to help and learn from one another. It makes the day go really quick and makes working here an enjoyable experience.

What’s your biggest achievement to date?

My biggest achievement to date was getting accepted into a Leonardo Davinci Programme, which was an EU Commission funding programme. This allowed me to spend three months in the Netherlands, where I spent time working on a student racing car team called “The Hydrocruisers” as a marketing officer. This gave me my first taste of marketing and provided the opportunity to meet some fascinating people as well as the excitement of watching them race the hydrogen-powered car at the Shell Eco-marathon. If it wasn’t for this experience, I am not sure where I would be today.

So, if you hadn’t gone to the Netherlands and then joined ClickThrough, what other career path might you have considered?

I might have considered becoming a pilot. I have always been fascinated by planes, which was passed down to me from my father – also an aviation enthusiast. This allowed me to learn about the different terminology of planes and models. This - combined with my love of speed and acceleration - meant I always had a hidden desire to learn to be a pilot, whether it was commercial or military.
