Almost two and a half years since first hitting the scene, Instagram has announced it now has more than 100 million users each month.
The online photo sharing and social networking site has proved to be hugely popular with casual Facebookers and social media marketing professionals alike due to its ease of use.
The picture sharing app, which began life with two men, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, slaving away over two rented desks in a chilly office back in October 2010, was sold to Facebook last year for a staggering $715 million.
Now with a staff of 13 members, the app is readily available on a number of smart devices including tablets and smartphones.
It was originally supported only on Apple devices such as the iPhone and iPad, but the firm extended its service to include Android devices in April of last year.
Speaking of the latest milestone on his company blog, Instagram co-founder and CEO, Kevin Systrom, said: "It's easy to see this as an accomplishment for a company, but I think the truth is that it's an accomplishment for our community.
"Now, more than ever, people are capturing the world in real-time using Instagram—sharing images from the farthest corners of the globe. What we see as a result is a world more connected and understood through photographs."
