Google's new june spam algorithm update

On June 23rd, Google concluded the rollout of their new spam algorithm update with another soon to follow a week later. Most websites will have nothing to worry about and will see no change in rankings. Google's definition of spam focuses on low quality sites that trick users into providing personal information or installing malware.

The new spam update will also target pesky phishing scams too. Keep an eye on your rankings in the next week, If you suddenly see a drop in rankings across your site following Junes spam update it would be wise to examine your site’s security and look for signs of a possible attack.

Google Search Notice Warnings for Unreliable Results

The latest thing to come out of the Google research team could highlight unreliable results to users. They are testing a new search feature that tells the searcher when results for their search show new pages that may not be trusted and reliable. The idea is to subtly bring up a notice that reads:

 “It looks like these results are changing quickly.", or “If this topic is new, it can sometimes take time for results to be added by reliable sources.

Google has said that this will help the user find the most appropriate and trusted page for their query. Newer pages may contain reliable information, but Google needs time to build reliable search results.

Finally, You Can Edit Your Robots.txt on Shopify

Would you believe, that Robots.txt have been around since 1994, and Shopify was founded in 2006 - yet it has taken until the 23rd of June 2021 for the ability to edit your own Robots.txt file on Shopify?

Before, these were automatically generated, giving you no choice but to accept the generated option - but the more tech savvy amongst us can now make their own modifications. 

This is great news, especially for hands-on technical specialists in SEO!
